Stronghold Martial Arts :  Defensive Concepts, Martial Arts,  and Seminars for Everyone

Serious Training

Life is a journey, not a destination.  It is the same in Martial Arts.  We train hard, with contact, and intention.  Our workouts are quite varied, in that we address SO many different skills.  Don't make the mistake of thinking our fighters, and every one of our students is considered a fighter, are "jacks of all trades and masters of none."  The reason for this exposure is to allow each individual student sample the eclectic methods of fighting that we teach, reach a high level of proficiency in each, and select the skills that best suit their needs.  This is not to say that each student has only a narrow range of skills; quite on the contrary, since each student is required to reach proficiency, if not mastery, of the skills we teach.

TAI Kung Fu
The majority of classes take place in a normal or "traditional Martial Arts atmosphere.  Students wear their uniform, work on self defense, basic technique, forms, sparring, footwork, breathing, and various defensive and offensive concepts.  Our self defense practice can be as simple as working a single portion of the simplest technique we teach, to working against a larger opponent who is attacking full speed and full power with an unexpected technique, to learning how to use the environment or even our clothing to defend ourselves.  We perform impact training, body conditioning, speed drills, and movement drills.  We practice internal, or "energy based" forms and techniques which are designed to harness internal power for defensive purposes.  We study anatomy and physiology.  It is a full system of defense.

Bag Work
We conduct 1 to 2 bag work sessions every month.  In these practice sessions, our students wear kickboxing clothing or boxing trunks for the workout.  They learn to wrap their hands, to work a heavy bag, double end bag, slip rope, maize bag, speed bag, focus mitts and Thai pads.  The skills that are learned in bag work:  power, speed, hand eye coordination, timing, and focus can be applied to all of our Kung Fu techniques as well as our boxing and kickboxing techniques.

Grappling
Our students grapple 1 to 2 times per month.  We are a stand up style of fighting.  Why?  Because it is tactically unsound to go to the ground in a real fight.  That, however, does not mean that you won't end up there.  Many physical altercations in the real world end up on the ground.  Our students work within a framework of "Submission Wrestling" to hone their ground fighting skills in order to be able to survive a ground attack and achieve their escape.  The goal of Submission Wrestling is to apply pressure until your opponent's cartilage snaps or they mess up their pants.

Other Training

Advanced training in tactics, energy, weapons, pressure points, and more traditional aspects is provided to practitioners who have reached the instructor level.  Based on the nature of this type of training, it is our most sincere desire to have a solid relationship of trust and integrity before we provide this type of training to our students.

Attitude

We are not a competition school, or a Mixed Martial Arts club.  There are no tattoos, no bling, and no bad attitudes.  We train hard, and we train for real Self-Defense.

We are also not a school where our primary goal is personal growth.  We don't treat the Martial Arts as a priesthood, a lesson in meditation, or simply another way to exercise.  We believe that personal development is a natural by-product of real training.
At Stronghold Martial Arts, we think we have something different...we have a Martial Family.  We only accept students we believe wil be a good fit for the class.  We push each other, tease each other, and whomp each other with great regularity.  We also support each other, because we are brothers and sister, working to achieve the same goal:  the perfection of our combat skills and our art.
Our motto is simple:

"We don't train morons, and we don't train thugs."
